Volunteering at Green

Get Involved/ Volunteer

Research shows that when parents are actively involved with their children's education, students' grades are higher, their self-esteem is greater, and they are more socially adjusted. In fact, the most accurate indicator of a student's academic success in school is not tied to family income or social status, but the extent to which a family:

  • Creates a home environment that encourages learning.
  • Sets high but realistic achievement and career expectations.
  • Becomes involved in their child's education and in the community.

In addition to attending parent / teacher conferences and other special events, there are many opportunities available to get involved both in the classroom and out....many of them are available to volunteer just one day a week!

  • Volunteer in your child's classroom or in the office
  • Participate in your child's field trip
  • PTO - Parent/Teacher Organization
  • Recess or Noon Duty Supervision
  • Running Club
  • Gecko Dads Corp
  • School Site Council
  • Help from 7am - 8am in front office

Interacting with students and volunteering at Green Elementary

Volunteering at Green Elementary adds that additional special touch for our children that helps Green Elementary stand out in its education. We do appreciate all volunteers and to be in line with the district guidelines, we need you to fill out an application annually, copy of your drivers license, current TB test and if you are going to drive, fingerprint and vehicle insurance information. To begin volunteering for the first time, the TB must be completed within 60 days. After you have submitted your TB test, it is on file and good for 4 years. Tuberculosis Services are provided by most doctor offices or clinics, the San Diego County of Health and Human Services Agency for homeless only or you can have our school Nurse complete a questionaire with you on Thursdays only. If you do not have insurance or do not want to go to your doctor for your TB, you will have to go to CVS, Target minute clinic, or other family services around town. This volunteer application and TB requirement is for any adult who is on campus for any reason and are interacting with students.  This volunteer form is an annual requirement, the TB is every 4 years.

Field Trips

Whether walking, riding on a bus, meeting your child or driving on a field trip, TB and Annual Volunteer Application is mandatory. In addition to the items described in the paragraph above, if you want to drive on field trips, for you and the school to be cleared, you need to provide copies of the declaration page of your auto insurance showing$100,000 / $300,000 limits of liability and have a signed Driver's authorization form on file. In addition, all drivers of field trips must be fingerprinted. See district guidelines above for more detailed information on fingerprinting. All of these requirements are to protect you as well as the children in the school.

Car Safety California Law (effective 01/01/2012)
In addition, children under 8 years old must be secured in a car seat or booster seat in the back seat of a car. Children under the age of 8 who are 4'9" or taller may be secured by a safety belt in the back seat. Children who are 8 years and over shall be properly secured in an appropriate child passenger restraint system or safety belt. If your child meets the requirement of a booster seat for a field trip, the parents are required to provide the booster seat on the day of the field trip.

Don't wait until the last minute to get approved to volunteer.
